OK Ladies, Let's Start Planning!

We are going to Europe!!! All you sisters interested in going to Europe in May 2011 sign up here. We are going to plan things together so we have some sort of agenda and an idea what each of us wants to do. I realize some of us will not have as much time as others and that is ok. We will work around everyone's schedule as much as possible. This is just the beginning.

  2. Well the fun starts here. So any suggestions need to be posted. How will we know what you want to do?

  3. I would like to get there a week earlier than most because I would like to go visit some friends in Scotland. Ideally for me, Flying in May 5th and leaving May 25th would work for me. Going to Germany sounds wonderful too. Maybe we can rent a house and do day trips from there. Also, if some just want to fly into Germany at least there would be a place to go to. We all have different ideas of fun so we could do our day trips and go back to a house and tell all about it while drinking beer and wine.

  5. i'm super excited! coupla questions though. is it JUST sisters or will some of you be bringing your daughters? just wondering? I Love Germany and Italy, but I've never been to Switzerland or Sweden?? Might be cool. I Love the Italian Lake region and of course the south in the amalfi coast. Spain is nice too. Mostly I think I'd like to go to Germany I think.

  6. Kathy was thinking we should extend this to the brothers. I'm thinking most people are going to fly into Germany (that seems to be the country of choice) and we'll all spend a week together. Kathy and I on the other hand plan to fly to Wales, then drive around England and Scotland for a week. John might fly to Germany and meet us. Of course we have a gazillion plans running through our crazy heads right now.
    This is sooooo freakin exciting.!

  7. Yea, it is!! sounds like loads and loads of fun..and yes I think the boys should be included

  8. I don't think anyone would exclude them. They just never want to participate. Maybe we can grab them with this.

  9. OMG! Can't wat...I am on the planning team...Can I actually be president of the planning team or at least a position of importance? I really want to be...

  13. Ok, I don't want to be a spoiler, but what if we planned late August or early September? Would that work better for those with kids? Or do we just go earlier than May like in April. Let's check the difference in price on airline tickets between May and June and August and September. Later would give everyone an entire year to save money and plan this out. Well, we girls will plan it out--then we'll tell the boys and include them on things. Once we have the dates set I can disable this site and change the blog to the braun's european vacation.

  14. Oh Lori, you did such a great job with your trip you are President of the Accommodations Committee. You might also be on the Excursion Committee. We also need to decide where in Germany to go. Everyone do some research to the things around the major big cities so we can decide where to focus.

  15. I am so happy to be President! But I must enlist Nancy as VP...if she accepts...and I think she can't refuse...it's just too exciting...

    ReplyDelete
  16. All presidents of a committee can pick their own vp's

    ReplyDelete
  17. I will be VP.! I would love to go back to Berlin sometime. I'll ask my neighbor too where we should go?

  19. OK>>I do not understand all these positions being given out. Is this a democracy? I told Kathy this AM that I wanted to be president.she kinda hmmed and hawed, but said we'll talk about it later..well, later, MaryEllen called and said" Mom, you cannot be president .PERIOD!!she said I was a control freak!1 WHAT???? Well, any way I got to thinking about this, and I think that a control freak runs every thing, right? So I am the new "Controller"...I will control all you crazy people, just as I have been doing, starting 58 years ago....So there!!!! 59 years if you include dad....

    ReplyDelete
  20. actually I knew dad for three years before i married him so 62

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh, how appropiate, mom wants to be Top Controler in Germany. Wasn't there a large war because of that?

  22. back to marys question ( Na VP must bring this meeting back to order!) does august/september work better? It does if we're BRINGING kids, or is this just sisters? cuz if hayle's not coming, it works better for me if she is IN school. I kinda like just us 'big girls'.....i'm just saying. And where the hell is Bridget?? Is it just the 5 of us???? By the way, how is Linda?? I've been thinking about her. I hate her being so depressed.

    ReplyDelete
  23. (not 'Na VP', just 'a VP')

By the way, my sink is clogged-the disposal is not working. this sucks!

    ReplyDelete
  24. OK, I'm making a decision. Munich, May 9th through May 16th. That gives Lori time to get home for johnny's confirmation.
PS. Bridget is at Jim Gillis's daughter's wedding.

  25. I don't know who Mom thinks she is, but she is crazy. I called her and said, "Ya know Mom, you did such a good job raising all us kids, why don't you take over this whole thing?" I hate for her to think we all think she is controlling. I think she should just be herself, the Queen Bee. So instead of calling her the Controller--she is now Queen Bee.
We'll just be her servants. Should we be Princesses or Ladies or Duchesses? Mom, what do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Here is what I think!!!!!!! I like being Queen Bee because I do not have to do any thing and I get to wear the Tiara (sorry Bridget).also remember to bow when you see me..I think you all can be what ever the hell you want...just as long as you know who the Queen Bee is...I should have one of those fancy chairs that queens sit in. I guess you call them "thrones"and i don't mean the potty...

    ReplyDelete
  27. By the way!!! The Queen Bee has approved all of the assignments so far.. And the schedule has also been approved . Now ALL OF YOU>>>>>GET TO WORK AND GET THOSE JOBS DONE!!! HERE YE!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thank you Your Royal Highness the Queen. I have been very busy with the ancestry research. I do need you to call Sir Tommy and Sir Jimmy to see if they can remember anything.

  29. Munich is great, and I checked, it is about a 6 hour train ride to Berlin if we want to do that. I think we should. What about Sheila, she is really cute, and still fun I think. Maybe she should come??
I set my alarm for 8 to go to 9:30 mass. But I hit the snooze so many times it's now 9am. my sugar was a tiny bit low. I could race around and get everyone up, but i think it's going to be a lazy Sunday. Dam, I really did plan on going to church today.

  30. Mary, Your the Princess of Ancestry? of History? of Family Dirt? what's up, I did not know you were doing this?

  31. I made THE BEST GREEN BEANS EVER last night!!!?? holy crap, you have to make them!! chop up some onions (of course!) and fry in a little oil and butter. add garlic. add salt & pepper and oregano. then add a can of chopped tomatoes. (to start with, blanch the beans for like 7 minutes) then throw the beans in the tomato sauce. OMG, they were so fricking good!!!

  32. Her Royal Highness the Queen Bee asked me to do some research about her mother's mother because she was from Germany or Austria. I found her in the 1900 US census. She was not from Germany but her mother was. I have not been able to find out where in Germany. That's what I am working on, so we might be able to tie our vacation into visiting our ancestors homeland. HRH Queen Bee does believe they came from the Black Forest which of course is West of Munich by about 3 1/5 hours.
Our Great Grandmother was married to Peter Weiss in 1900 and had 4 children (Grandma was not born until 1904 by a different father). Somewhere between 1900 and 1904 Peter died and Mary (Great Gma) remarried and had 2 children. Uncle George was born before Gma McAndrew. I am still on the case.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Dear Princess Mary, you keep forgetting Harry, he was my mother's brother too. He was the baby. there were three of them. The four Weiss children were Peter, Bill, May and Gertrude.. I thought my grandmother was born in Germany because she did speak German... Wonderful job so far...

    ReplyDelete
  34. I didn't forget Harry, I was just saying she became a widow, remarried and had George and Eleanor within 4 years.

    ReplyDelete
  35. OK she had Eleanor within four years, then she had George, then she had Harry..got it???
